A SHORT HISTORY OF ASHLEY FOOTBALL CLUB

by Paul Huntley

Did you realise that Ashley Football Club was originally called Bristol Erickson Warmley and was a works team? Didn’t think you would!

Ashley Football Club 2005

The club was founded in 1979 and entered the Downs league the same year. The team was quite strong in the early years, reaching the All Saints Cup Final in 1981 & 1982. ‘We’ lost the first 4-1 to Knowle Utd but returned a year later to beat Clifton St Vincents ‘A’ 3-1. The club’s only final since then was in 1999 when we beat Newco Utd 1-0.

B.E. Warmley, as the club was known, became K.E.Warmley when Kennametal took over Eriksons. The Ashley name came into being in 1996 when the then Club Secretary walked into the Ashley Arms and persuaded the landlady to buy us a new kit.
